Weather: Saturday and Sunday AM - Clear skies, PM - slightly cloudy

Saturday rolls around, and the long-awaited fashion show is finally here! To the right of the resident services building is a long, white carpet that runs the entire length of the resident services area. There are studio lights set up behind each chair, creating a theatrical atmosphere. On each side are lines of white chairs, though the two closest to the microphone at the top of the runaway on both sides have flower crowns on them to indicate the guests of honor. There are enough seats for everyone on the island (including Tom Nook and his crew), and there isn’t any assigned seating. Anyone’s free to grab any chair they’d like.

Label herself is standing at the microphone, and she nods at everyone when everyone’s been seated.

“Hello, everyone.” She gives an encouraging smile to everyone. “I’m glad you all came. Welcome to Isla Sonrisa’s first ever fashion show. We’re hoping you have a good time, too; we’re all looking forward to seeing what you have to show off. First, though, I’d like to introduce you to the other judges.”

Seated at a table are three others: a blue hedgehog; another hedgehog--this one, dark red; and… a wolf? That’s a wolf for sure, with a pair of sunglasses perched atop her head.

“I’d like to present Mabel--” She gestures to the blue hedgehog, who smiles brightly and widely and waves with both paws. “--Sable,” Label says, gesturing to the other hedgehog, who seems much shyer, but no less pleased to be here. “--And Audie,” Label says, and the wolf waves and smiles brightly--it rivals Mabel’s own smile!



“We’re all very pleased to be here, and we hope you’ll have fun today. Good luck to all of our participants.”

Despite her slightly subdued demeanor, she smiles encouragingly again, and takes her seat next to Audie, across of the other two hedgehogs!

After the introductory speech, the fashion show begins. K.K. Disco plays from the speakers, and Mabel calls up each contestant one by one to walk down the runway and strut their stuff. It’s a fun fashion show, and Mabel, Sabel, Audie and Label are all writing down their notes on what appear to be score cards.

Once everyone’s had a chance to strut their stuff and the judges have had a while to deliberate, Mabel returns to the microphone and clears her throat.

“Wow, everyone! You all had some really incredible outfits! We really love what you all brought to the runway, and we have our winners! In third place is… Emporio! Your suspender outfit really looked snappy! In second place is Sylvando! That summery look really captures the spirit of the season.”

She pauses, as if for dramatic effect.

“And finally, our winner... is Zeke! Your bathrobe was a little unconventional, but it combines fashion, function, and comfort! Congratulations to all our winners, and please make sure to pick up your prizes from our table!”

Those prizes are: First place, an item from Label's fashion line and 10,000 bells. The runner-up receives a voucher worth 5,000 bells. The third place prize is a voucher worth 2,000 bells. Everyone who participated gets 1,000 bells!

On Sunday, there's a celebration of the fashion show at Resident Services! There are tables set up with refreshments -- sweets and desserts of all kinds -- and a water cooler with drinks. Balloons sit on each corner of the area, and there's music playing in the background. The Able sisters and Audie are there by the time you arrive.

Audie seems to be wandering around outside of the party at times, looking at the homes and admiring the trees and decorations scattered throughout the island. She seems very curious about the island and may have a couple of questions for anyone who approaches.

Mabel and Sable seem to be discussing something of importance. There's a lot of nodding, a lot of glancing up and around the island, and then there's a delighted smile on Mabel's face at some point. She may also have some questions for you all, too, when she and Sable are done talking.

Otherwise, feel free to enjoy the party and continue your business on the island as always!

[Though not on the same day as the competition, the party is celebrating it. And as such, Ren decides he'll go to said celebration in the same outfit as yesterday: a black and white maid dress. He doesn't look particularly put out at crossdressing, just considering it another outfit to wear, if only for an occasion such as this.

His first stop is the refreshment table, because food is food and food is good. A slice or two of cake is just what he needs. When he's pleasantly full, he'll wander about, hitting up various people for conversation and seeing how they're enjoying things.

By the end of the day, he's a little tuckered out but not ready for sleep just yet. He takes a seat on a flat rock near the shoreline, silently watching the waves come in and out.]

[ Sometimes you just want to enjoy the breeze around your legs. Minato doesn't think too much about it, watching Ren make his rounds while Minato himself keeps to the refreshment tables with an ever increasing stack of plates piling up next to him. He's not always eating, though, his notebook in his lap and every once in a while he stops staring at people to roll up a piece of paper, cutting one of the balloon strings to tie to the note, and letting it rise again and disappear into the night sky. ]

[Ren can't help but notice what Minato's doing, considering the balloons floating up into the air every so often. A couple of balloons in, he decides to approach and see what's up.]

What're you doing there?

Distress signal.

[ It's what Minato called the floating gifts that can often be seen going past the island, but when he holds out a balloon to Ren along with the piece of paper so he can read it before tying it to the balloon, all it reads is:

"Isla Sonrisa
Population: 38 (7/19/20)"

with a rough sketch of the island, the scattering of houses and rivers. ]

Huh. That's...definitely an idea. I don't know if it's going to get to anyone who has the power to get us back home across dimensions, but it's always worth a shot.

I dunno if anybody has that sort of power.

[ Whoever has the power isn't going to be grabbing balloons out of the sky, he thinks as he takes the note back to wound the string around it and send it on its way. ]

But there's somebody out there sending us stuff. I just want to establish communication... Let them know somebody's out there. Like the Voyager Golden Records.

I didn't think of it that way. That's actually a really good idea, even if it doesn't lead anywhere solid.

[It might not help them either way, but it can't really hurt, either.]

It's too bad they didn't really have a stylist, or the fashion show would have been even better.

Seriously. Honestly, I probably would've had a better shot if I had someone to do my make-up. Oh well.

[Briefly, he can imagine Ann being here, and how excited she'd be to totally make him up. Maybe it's best she isn't, because she'd probably insist he join her like that to one of her photoshoots...]

Not on a frequent basis, but I did disguise myself as a policewoman once to question someone who'd already seen my face before.

[He's kind of glad that none of his friends had seen him like that, though. Aside from...well.]

[Serval takes no issue with the maid dress, but then, she probably doesn't know what a gender norm is. She bounds over with a smile, wide awake despite the hour.]

That was fun, wasn't it? But I think I'm just going to wear my normal clothes again.

It was! You looked great. Don't know how you weren't roasting in that coat, though.

It was really hot. Maybe that's why I didn't win. I don't know a lot about fashion, even though I asked Label-san.

Nahhh. Honestly, I have no idea what the judging parameters were anyway, but they weren't like any fashion show I've ever heard of.

[Good on Zeke for winning, but....a bathrobe? Really?]

What are they usually like? Were you in one before?

I think they're usually based on style and elegance, though they're not all the same. But you usually find really fancy kinds of clothes in them. Not, uh, bathrobes.

[He shakes his head at the last part.]

Nope. My friend's a model, but that's as close as I've gotten to the fashion world.

[Byleth is also here in the get-up she was wearing the previous day, the cardigan and skirt with boots, but with the addition of a pair of glasses and a black star hairpin. She's got a... rather impressively full plate of desserts. Goodness. She waves when she spots Ren.]

I'm still a little baffled how you didn't place in the show.

[When he sees Byleth's dessert plate, he immediately thinks back to Ann's dishes of choice at the hotel buffet, and he can't help but chuckle.]

I thought the "different" factor would give me a leg up, honestly. Maybe if I had a wig and some make-up?

[He laughs, then glances at her plate again.]

Somewhat. I like sweet things... and I tend to eat a lot anyway.

[She's alarmed the dining hall staff at Garreg Mach (and probably a few students...) with how much food she can put away...]

Reminds me of a friend I have back home. Sometimes, we'd go to a buffet for a special occasion. She's really slender--a model, actually-- but you'd be shocked at the plates she brings back from the dessert section...
