Weekend 2 Log

WEEKEND 2 LOG
Weather: Saturday and Sunday AM - sunny with a nice breeze, PM - cool weather with clouds

    Saturday

Before Tom Nook does his morning announcements on Saturday, you might notice something different about one of the structures around you. Those of you who can hear well may listen to the curious sound of an engine running in the near distance. Walk towards the source of the sound, and you’ll see two things:

    1) The airport door is fixed.
    2) Someone is inside the seaplane.

Should you enter the airport, you’ll find… a dodo sitting at the desk. Huh. You haven’t seen this particular bird here yet… Regardless, when he notices you all, he perks up and looks downright excited.

“Hey, hey, hey! Welcome to your one and only gateway to the skies, the Isla Sonrisa Airport! Wow, there are a lot of you! I’m Orville, and I’ll be taking care of your flight arrangements. Hey, Wilbur, get out here and meet these fellas!”

And another dodo comes out from the back of the airport--or, rather, where you’d expect the plane is docked. He seems a little more serious than the other dodo, but he gives a wave all the same, looking at you through his shades.

“You all are the ones we’re taking to the mystery island, right? Nice to meet you. I’m Wilbur. We’ll give you more details tomorrow. We’re still setting up here.”

Wilbur and Orville, the dodos in charge of the airport… try not to think about it too hard. Anyway, the dodos are here to help you out… by taking you to a “mystery island,” it seems.

Before you head out to board the plane, Orville gathers you all into the lobby of the airport. He has an explanation!

"Now, you've gotta be wondering why we've called you all here. There's something special about this island you'll be spending the day at! There's someone who's looking for a change of pace, an island paradise home, and it's up to you to ask them if they'd like to stay! You guys helped prepare that housing plot, right? Can't leave it unoccupied for much longer after all that hard work! Board the plane and soar into the sky right to your potential new neighbor! ... Tomorrow!"

...Well, now that you know what you have to do, how will you prepare?

    Sunday

On Sunday, before you take off on your mystery island tour, Tom Nook asks everyone to meet at Resident Services again. This time, though, it’s Blathers who has something for you. Remember those containers with the tools during your first week here? Those are back out, but this time, you’ve got two new things: Ladders and vaulting poles. You’ll also notice that your DIY Apps now have DIYs for both of these things! How convenient.

Now that you’re properly equipped to go on your mystery island tour, Wilbur and Orville will escort you onto the seaplane. They need to make two trips, as the max capacity of the plane cannot fit everyone inside; but should you choose to go to the island, you’ll find something very, very interesting. Wilbur is your pilot, and will also be around to assist you while you explore this mysterious island.

The island is populated with bamboo trees! Well, would you look at that! Here’s something you haven’t seen yet. The trees are tall and the leaves are gently swaying in the wind. Should you chop at these bamboo trees, you’ll get bamboo pieces or young spring bamboo. There are even bamboo shoots to be dug up—either for a snack or to plant back home.

There are two tiers to the island—a ground level and a little cliff that you can climb up onto. The island also has rocks for you to mine, trees for you to shake, and bugs and fish for you to catch if you need them. And, pleasantly surprising, there are coconut trees to harvest fruit from: eight of them, four on either shore, with two coconuts per tree. There are also plenty of shells to collect on the shore. What’s missing is that there are no balloons, DIY bottles, or fossils to be found here. All of this can be seen from the aerial view of the island.

There is one other thing that stands out, though: On the left hand side of the island near the beach is a campfire...along with some movement. You can’t quite discern who this may be, but it seems like you aren’t alone on the island after all.

Landing will allow you to do whatever you desire with this island. You aren’t coming back here, after all. Just be mindful of the other visitor who’s here. They may be up for a chat — but there’s only one way to find out.

(OOC: Welcome to your second event log! Any questions can be directed to the FAQ. Since we have two separate prompts for you, we'll be separating this log by days.

NOTE: You do not have to recruit the mystery villager! This is completely optional and we will leave it up to you guys. We're flexible and can mold the game around your decisions!

NOTE-NOTE: You are also free to not board the plane for the island tour if you wish! You're free to hang out at your home island and do work there, too.

Let us know if you have any questions, as always!)

whereswalder: I MUST NATURE!! (CITY? CITY LIFE?)

I

[...

He sees that, and runs to the window to shout...]

Hey, is there a fire happening? Is everyone alright!?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ Minato nearly topples right into Walder as he pulls himself through the window and stumbles out of it. ]

No fire! There's no fire. Uh-

[ He glances over his shoulder just to make sure, but no, there's no fire. Just a lot of smoke. ]

I sorta burned a project. But if I leave it alone, it should cool down without spontaneously combusting. I think.
whereswalder: he needs more... flair. (i'm looking at this mark trail guy.)

[personal profile] whereswalder 2020-07-12 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh... what kind of project? Just for safety’s sake here!

[He’ll peer into the window... because he’s also just curious. Like, for shits and giggles.]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
An art project...

[ Inside the window past Minato is a smoldering microwave with its door open, partially blown off its hinges, with a lump of something sitting on the plate inside. It's charred black, oozing dark brown in some places, and about the size of one's head. ]

...

[Walder... kind of squints a bit...]

Um. You mean... that abstract art stuff, then...

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-14 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't as abstract before it went into the microwave and melted...

[ and subsequently exploded. There was more form fifteen minutes ago, he swears ]

What kind of art do you need to put in the microwave, anyway...?

...

What even does a microwave do!?!

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-16 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
It's a statue, and, uh.

[ how does a microwave work ]

A microwave zaps water molecules so they'll heat up. I guess... maybe the clay didn't have enough water? Or too much.

[ The idea was to have the water boil off completely so all that's left is dry and hard, but somewhere along the way he must've run out of water. ]
whereswalder: the tutorial character finally gets his day (prepared to protect the wilderness!)

...

...So it’s a weird magic thing. Got it.

[something something sufficiently advanced technology...]

But huh, I don’t know enough about sculpting to say what went wrong. Or microwaves. Definitely not microwaves.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-18 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ Sometimes, science is a weird magic thing. ]

I don't know much about microwaves either.

[ Vibrating water molecules to produce heat, maybe, but none of the intricacies and it might as well be magic to him too. ]

If you ever get one of these things, I think the only thing to remember is to never stick anything metal inside.
whereswalder: AND THE BEACHES! (just another day in the life of WALDER!)

[personal profile] whereswalder 2020-07-21 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
...but metal doesn't have water in it, does it...?

...

Eh, it doesn't have to make sense. I'll keep it in mind!
