Weekend 2 Log

WEEKEND 2 LOG
Weather: Saturday and Sunday AM - sunny with a nice breeze, PM - cool weather with clouds

    Saturday

Before Tom Nook does his morning announcements on Saturday, you might notice something different about one of the structures around you. Those of you who can hear well may listen to the curious sound of an engine running in the near distance. Walk towards the source of the sound, and you’ll see two things:

    1) The airport door is fixed.
    2) Someone is inside the seaplane.

Should you enter the airport, you’ll find… a dodo sitting at the desk. Huh. You haven’t seen this particular bird here yet… Regardless, when he notices you all, he perks up and looks downright excited.

“Hey, hey, hey! Welcome to your one and only gateway to the skies, the Isla Sonrisa Airport! Wow, there are a lot of you! I’m Orville, and I’ll be taking care of your flight arrangements. Hey, Wilbur, get out here and meet these fellas!”

And another dodo comes out from the back of the airport--or, rather, where you’d expect the plane is docked. He seems a little more serious than the other dodo, but he gives a wave all the same, looking at you through his shades.

“You all are the ones we’re taking to the mystery island, right? Nice to meet you. I’m Wilbur. We’ll give you more details tomorrow. We’re still setting up here.”

Wilbur and Orville, the dodos in charge of the airport… try not to think about it too hard. Anyway, the dodos are here to help you out… by taking you to a “mystery island,” it seems.

Before you head out to board the plane, Orville gathers you all into the lobby of the airport. He has an explanation!

"Now, you've gotta be wondering why we've called you all here. There's something special about this island you'll be spending the day at! There's someone who's looking for a change of pace, an island paradise home, and it's up to you to ask them if they'd like to stay! You guys helped prepare that housing plot, right? Can't leave it unoccupied for much longer after all that hard work! Board the plane and soar into the sky right to your potential new neighbor! ... Tomorrow!"

...Well, now that you know what you have to do, how will you prepare?

    Sunday

On Sunday, before you take off on your mystery island tour, Tom Nook asks everyone to meet at Resident Services again. This time, though, it’s Blathers who has something for you. Remember those containers with the tools during your first week here? Those are back out, but this time, you’ve got two new things: Ladders and vaulting poles. You’ll also notice that your DIY Apps now have DIYs for both of these things! How convenient.

Now that you’re properly equipped to go on your mystery island tour, Wilbur and Orville will escort you onto the seaplane. They need to make two trips, as the max capacity of the plane cannot fit everyone inside; but should you choose to go to the island, you’ll find something very, very interesting. Wilbur is your pilot, and will also be around to assist you while you explore this mysterious island.

The island is populated with bamboo trees! Well, would you look at that! Here’s something you haven’t seen yet. The trees are tall and the leaves are gently swaying in the wind. Should you chop at these bamboo trees, you’ll get bamboo pieces or young spring bamboo. There are even bamboo shoots to be dug up—either for a snack or to plant back home.

There are two tiers to the island—a ground level and a little cliff that you can climb up onto. The island also has rocks for you to mine, trees for you to shake, and bugs and fish for you to catch if you need them. And, pleasantly surprising, there are coconut trees to harvest fruit from: eight of them, four on either shore, with two coconuts per tree. There are also plenty of shells to collect on the shore. What’s missing is that there are no balloons, DIY bottles, or fossils to be found here. All of this can be seen from the aerial view of the island.

There is one other thing that stands out, though: On the left hand side of the island near the beach is a campfire...along with some movement. You can’t quite discern who this may be, but it seems like you aren’t alone on the island after all.

Landing will allow you to do whatever you desire with this island. You aren’t coming back here, after all. Just be mindful of the other visitor who’s here. They may be up for a chat — but there’s only one way to find out.

(OOC: Welcome to your second event log! Any questions can be directed to the FAQ. Since we have two separate prompts for you, we'll be separating this log by days.

NOTE: You do not have to recruit the mystery villager! This is completely optional and we will leave it up to you guys. We're flexible and can mold the game around your decisions!

NOTE-NOTE: You are also free to not board the plane for the island tour if you wish! You're free to hang out at your home island and do work there, too.

Let us know if you have any questions, as always!)

Mmmmmmicrowaving mishaps? You know how sometimes, you stick something in the microwave for too long and it starts to pop...

[ Or you stick something that shouldn't be put in a microwave, but you didn't know, and you didn't keep an eye on it either. These things happen. ]
turntoashes: (You Idiot...)

[personal profile] turntoashes 2020-07-11 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
There's usually not smoke.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't think there was going to be any... I think it'll be okay? I left the microwave door open so the smoke and heat can escape, and there's no fire...
turntoashes: (Bored)

[personal profile] turntoashes 2020-07-12 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
What did you do?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Tried to microwave a chunk of clay.

[ A really large chunk of clay. He gestures with his hands about the size of his face. ]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
To harden it. Y'know, like how you bake clay to dry it out. Microwave was supposed to be faster.
turntoashes: (Burnish Flare)

[personal profile] turntoashes 2020-07-12 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
You use fire to bake clay.

[Even he knows that.]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
I can't make fire.

[ He's doing his best with what he has! which is a terrible job, granted, but the only way he knows to make fire is to stick something even worse in that microwave and hope for the worst/best. ]
turntoashes: (You Idiot...)

[personal profile] turntoashes 2020-07-12 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
We had a bonfire the other night. There are people who know how to make a fire.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
It's sorta a personal project, so I wanted to surprise somebody with it... Think you can help me out? Otherwise, I guess I can find Alexis.

[ Who will probably not help him, because he hasn't spoken to her yet. But she is one person who, without a doubt, knows how to make fire. ]
turntoashes: (Power)

[personal profile] turntoashes 2020-07-12 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
[DO NOT ASK ALEXIS.

Lio shrugs and nods.]

Sure. Kairi showed me how, so I can show you.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
That'd be great. I need a fire large enough to bake something this big.

[ He places a hand to hover up in front of his forehead. ]
turntoashes: (I See)

[personal profile] turntoashes 2020-07-12 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
What are you making? A mask?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ ...He lowers his hand all the way to the ground, touching the tips of his fingertips to it. Head to toe. This big. ]

A life-sized statue of Iori Nagase.
turntoashes: (You Idiot...)

[personal profile] turntoashes 2020-07-12 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
[ . . . ]

Why? And why did you think that would fit in a microwave?!

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't.

[ He is stupid, but not this stupid! And has enough pride to look just a little affronted. ]

I was trying to get just the head done in the microwave. It could fit at least that. But if it's a fire, there's no size restriction, and I can do the whole thing at once, right?
turntoashes: (What...)

[personal profile] turntoashes 2020-07-12 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe, I'm not a potter, but again: why?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Why a life-sized statue of Iori Nagase?

[ he asks, as if the reason is obvious and needn't be said out loud ]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
'cause I promised I'd make her one.

[ Which is a good enough reason for him, but probably not to Lio, so he amends the statement. ]

She wanted to leave behind something people could remember her by. So she's never forgotten, even after she's gone from this world.

[ Also any great ruler should have a large imposing statue of themselves, but that's a separate conversation. ]
turntoashes: (What...)

[personal profile] turntoashes 2020-07-12 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Al...right...

[That. Sure is a reason but okay moving on.]

Where'd you even get that much clay?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
From the rocks. Been asking around for them, and collecting what I could. I can stretch what I have if I make the parts hollow... Maybe that's what went wrong with the head, though.

[ Hot air sure built up in a hollow head and went BOOM!! ]
turntoashes: (What...)

[personal profile] turntoashes 2020-07-12 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
....probably.

[How did this guy live to teenagerdom?]

Just. Let me know when you have the statue. I'll get a fire going when you do.

[Please never have the statue.]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-12 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Time passes quickly to teenagerdom when you spend 14+ hours in bed every day ]

Sure thing. Gotta get enough clay to remake the head, but I'm hoping to get it done by the coming week.
