Before Tom Nook does his morning announcements on Saturday, you might notice something different about one of the structures around you. Those of you who can hear well may listen to the curious sound of an engine running in the near distance. Walk towards the source of the sound, and you’ll see two things:

1) The airport door is fixed.
2) Someone is inside the seaplane.

Should you enter the airport, you’ll find… a dodo sitting at the desk. Huh. You haven’t seen this particular bird here yet… Regardless, when he notices you all, he perks up and looks downright excited.

“Hey, hey, hey! Welcome to your one and only gateway to the skies, the Isla Sonrisa Airport! Wow, there are a lot of you! I’m Orville, and I’ll be taking care of your flight arrangements. Hey, Wilbur, get out here and meet these fellas!”

And another dodo comes out from the back of the airport--or, rather, where you’d expect the plane is docked. He seems a little more serious than the other dodo, but he gives a wave all the same, looking at you through his shades.

“You all are the ones we’re taking to the mystery island, right? Nice to meet you. I’m Wilbur. We’ll give you more details tomorrow. We’re still setting up here.”

Wilbur and Orville, the dodos in charge of the airport… try not to think about it too hard. Anyway, the dodos are here to help you out… by taking you to a “mystery island,” it seems.


Before you head out to board the plane, Orville gathers you all into the lobby of the airport. He has an explanation!

"Now, you've gotta be wondering why we've called you all here. There's something special about this island you'll be spending the day at! There's someone who's looking for a change of pace, an island paradise home, and it's up to you to ask them if they'd like to stay! You guys helped prepare that housing plot, right? Can't leave it unoccupied for much longer after all that hard work! Board the plane and soar into the sky right to your potential new neighbor! ... Tomorrow!"

...Well, now that you know what you have to do, how will you prepare?

On Sunday, before you take off on your mystery island tour, Tom Nook asks everyone to meet at Resident Services again. This time, though, it’s Blathers who has something for you. Remember those containers with the tools during your first week here? Those are back out, but this time, you’ve got two new things: Ladders and vaulting poles. You’ll also notice that your DIY Apps now have DIYs for both of these things! How convenient.

Now that you’re properly equipped to go on your mystery island tour, Wilbur and Orville will escort you onto the seaplane. They need to make two trips, as the max capacity of the plane cannot fit everyone inside; but should you choose to go to the island, you’ll find something very, very interesting. Wilbur is your pilot, and will also be around to assist you while you explore this mysterious island.

The island is populated with bamboo trees! Well, would you look at that! Here’s something you haven’t seen yet. The trees are tall and the leaves are gently swaying in the wind. Should you chop at these bamboo trees, you’ll get bamboo pieces or young spring bamboo. There are even bamboo shoots to be dug up—either for a snack or to plant back home.



There are two tiers to the island—a ground level and a little cliff that you can climb up onto. The island also has rocks for you to mine, trees for you to shake, and bugs and fish for you to catch if you need them. And, pleasantly surprising, there are coconut trees to harvest fruit from: eight of them, four on either shore, with two coconuts per tree. There are also plenty of shells to collect on the shore. What’s missing is that there are no balloons, DIY bottles, or fossils to be found here. All of this can be seen from the aerial view of the island.

There is one other thing that stands out, though: On the left hand side of the island near the beach is a campfire...along with some movement. You can’t quite discern who this may be, but it seems like you aren’t alone on the island after all.

Landing will allow you to do whatever you desire with this island. You aren’t coming back here, after all. Just be mindful of the other visitor who’s here. They may be up for a chat — but there’s only one way to find out.

No, he's a kidnapper. Not an unreasonable one, though. If it comes down to it, we can rely on him to handle this guy.

[Well, she agrees that he doesn't seem unreasonable.

Because she's a bad judge of character, probably.]

I don't think we need to worry about anyone doing any kidnapping. And we shouldn't prepare to jail people, either.

Yeah...

[ He watches everybody crowd around Snake to welcome him into the group, and Minato pities him. ]

Looks like he wants to go, anyways, so I don't have to do anything. Awesome.

[ otherwise, if Joonghyuk doesn't take up the mantle, Minato would have stepped up to play kidnapper, maybe ]

[transfusionem]

...Yeah.

What were you planning on doing...?

[ Glancing over to make sure Snake is preoccupied, Minato turns slightly so his back is to Snake before he reaches into his pocket to pull out the clothesline he keeps wound up in there. He places a finger to his lips, looking at Adelaide. Shh. ]

[transfusionem]

[...

Slowly, she nods.]

Well. Glad that doesn't have to happen.

[compendiem]

We'll see.

[ He tucks the string away, and will have it prepared just in case. ]

Nothing's set in stone until we've got him over in the other island where there's no further escape.

[transfusionem]

Guess not.

[She looks over at Snake.]

...I don't think he'd even consider escaping.

[compendiem]

[ Minato also looks over. "I don't think he considers" is the unvoiced thought, here. ]

There's safety in numbers, I guess... I wonder what picked off the rest of the people on this island.

[transfusionem]

Considering the problems we've been having...

[She thinks of Dokja.]

Probably scorpions.

[compendiem]

I haven't seen any yet...

[ He gestures with his hands around the size of a large dog. ??? monster scorpions?? ]

[transfusionem]

Me neither, but they seem to be pretty nasty.

[Shrug!]

Maybe they're like Nook and this guy.

[compendiem]

[ Oh. Oh!! That has Minato brightening up considerably. ]

That'd be so cool... I hope so.

[ Where are his scorpion and alligator villagers!!!!! Even if they are nasty, Minato can't help but look excited. ]

[transfusionem]

[He's a weird kid but he's cute...

So young and strange, just like most boys she knew when she was his age.]

I mean...there's gotta be at least one, right?

[Right???]

[ What a face Minato would be making if he knew what Adelaide was thinking... But it's true; more kids here should be excited about alligators. They are very cool. ]

Yeah... If there's tanukis and birds and rabbits... and a lot of us around here have cat ears and tails... there's gotta be somebody who looks more like me, right?

[ And isn't that also what little kids concern themselves over? Wanting to see somebody who looks like them, wanting to fit in somewhere. ]

[transfusionem]

[What he doesn't know won't hurt him, and Adelaide would never hurt him. He is her son, her sweet baby boy, the weird kid who she finds delightful and charming despite everything he does and chooses to be.]

Not just any birds, either... I mean, dodos are extinct where I'm from, but there are dodos here. That're blue. I'm sure there's gotta be people like you, too.

[She tilts her head, considering.]

You weren't like this before, right?

[ DESPITE EVERYTHING HE DOES AND CHOOSES TO BE that's terrible, people should not give Minato that much allowance. ]

Dodos and... whatever Zeke von Genbu, Bringer of Chaos is. Whatever I'm supposed to be.

[ Because he can't tell, mind going to certain Personas without any real life animal to settle on. ]

But nah, I didn't look this cool before. Did you?

[It's too late...]

I think he's a shoebill? And you look like some kind of... [Demon...] I don't know, do horned bats exist?

[They don't.]

Nah, I was as mundane as the last person. Don't know if there's any rhyme or reason to what traits we end up with, either.

[ What's a shoebill... He doesn't know what a horned bat would look like either, but bats are about the only thing with leathery wings he's familiar with too. ]

Maybe I'm an antelope bat hybrid or something... [ he shakes his head, because it doesn't matter much, not anymore. ]

At least you look cute.

[ He holds up a hand to block her ears from sight and squints ]

It's hard to look awful. Everything has its charms. I can find at least something, at least.

[ He's of the opinion that there are no ugly people. Baby birds on the other hand... Charm exists, just not in appearance. ]
