Before Tom Nook does his morning announcements on Saturday, you might notice something different about one of the structures around you. Those of you who can hear well may listen to the curious sound of an engine running in the near distance. Walk towards the source of the sound, and you’ll see two things:

1) The airport door is fixed.
2) Someone is inside the seaplane.

Should you enter the airport, you’ll find… a dodo sitting at the desk. Huh. You haven’t seen this particular bird here yet… Regardless, when he notices you all, he perks up and looks downright excited.

“Hey, hey, hey! Welcome to your one and only gateway to the skies, the Isla Sonrisa Airport! Wow, there are a lot of you! I’m Orville, and I’ll be taking care of your flight arrangements. Hey, Wilbur, get out here and meet these fellas!”

And another dodo comes out from the back of the airport--or, rather, where you’d expect the plane is docked. He seems a little more serious than the other dodo, but he gives a wave all the same, looking at you through his shades.

“You all are the ones we’re taking to the mystery island, right? Nice to meet you. I’m Wilbur. We’ll give you more details tomorrow. We’re still setting up here.”

Wilbur and Orville, the dodos in charge of the airport… try not to think about it too hard. Anyway, the dodos are here to help you out… by taking you to a “mystery island,” it seems.


Before you head out to board the plane, Orville gathers you all into the lobby of the airport. He has an explanation!

"Now, you've gotta be wondering why we've called you all here. There's something special about this island you'll be spending the day at! There's someone who's looking for a change of pace, an island paradise home, and it's up to you to ask them if they'd like to stay! You guys helped prepare that housing plot, right? Can't leave it unoccupied for much longer after all that hard work! Board the plane and soar into the sky right to your potential new neighbor! ... Tomorrow!"

...Well, now that you know what you have to do, how will you prepare?

On Sunday, before you take off on your mystery island tour, Tom Nook asks everyone to meet at Resident Services again. This time, though, it’s Blathers who has something for you. Remember those containers with the tools during your first week here? Those are back out, but this time, you’ve got two new things: Ladders and vaulting poles. You’ll also notice that your DIY Apps now have DIYs for both of these things! How convenient.

Now that you’re properly equipped to go on your mystery island tour, Wilbur and Orville will escort you onto the seaplane. They need to make two trips, as the max capacity of the plane cannot fit everyone inside; but should you choose to go to the island, you’ll find something very, very interesting. Wilbur is your pilot, and will also be around to assist you while you explore this mysterious island.

The island is populated with bamboo trees! Well, would you look at that! Here’s something you haven’t seen yet. The trees are tall and the leaves are gently swaying in the wind. Should you chop at these bamboo trees, you’ll get bamboo pieces or young spring bamboo. There are even bamboo shoots to be dug up—either for a snack or to plant back home.



There are two tiers to the island—a ground level and a little cliff that you can climb up onto. The island also has rocks for you to mine, trees for you to shake, and bugs and fish for you to catch if you need them. And, pleasantly surprising, there are coconut trees to harvest fruit from: eight of them, four on either shore, with two coconuts per tree. There are also plenty of shells to collect on the shore. What’s missing is that there are no balloons, DIY bottles, or fossils to be found here. All of this can be seen from the aerial view of the island.

There is one other thing that stands out, though: On the left hand side of the island near the beach is a campfire...along with some movement. You can’t quite discern who this may be, but it seems like you aren’t alone on the island after all.

Landing will allow you to do whatever you desire with this island. You aren’t coming back here, after all. Just be mindful of the other visitor who’s here. They may be up for a chat — but there’s only one way to find out.

Sure do. Anybody can play the piano- you just bang at the keys.

[ Serval too. There's no need to be shy about playing the keys delicately or anything, and he slides over so Serval can sit on the other half of the bench beside him. ]

[She giggles and hits a few at a time, like... well, a cat trying to figure out how the piano works.]

That sounds fun! Did you get all these in the mail?

It's fun. I played this all the time.

[ He hits a few keys too, trying to make a melody in between Serval's plinking, but you still can't really call it a melody. ]

I got the instruction manual for the ocarina. But the violin and piano I got from Iori and Laurent. They probably got it in the mail, though.

Oh, okay! I'm trying to make stuff from the manuals, too. Sometimes it's a little hard, but I understand the pictures.

Picture's all you really need for that sorta thing. Throw in the ingredients and not worry about the process.

[ It's how he makes his Personas and there's no point questioning what he can't understand ]

Got any manuals for instruments?

I dunno. Let me see!

[She pulls out her phone and starts pawing through it, thankfully no longer playing the piano. Turning to a frying pan, she shows it over.]

Is this one?

[ He looks at the DIY and considers ]

Yeah, it's like a drum. Do you want to play this as part of the band?

[sugooooooooi]

Sure! I'll find the stuff to make it, and then we can play! It'll be fun.

[compendiem]

Yeah, it'll be fun. What materials do you need? Maybe I have some of the stuff already.

[sugooooooooi]

[She scrolls up to where it says it requires two Iron Nuggets.]

I don't know those words yet. Laurent-san was teaching me some, but I know it doesn't say "apple" or "wood."

[compendiem]

He's teaching you how to read...? This one says "Iron nugget: 2."

[ He stares a moment longer, but there's no way he can help parse those words with the letters from "apple" and "wood" ]

I'm no good at teaching, so I guess... you just have to memorize that. Or get Laurent to teach you properly.

[sugooooooooi]

Don't worry! I'll figure that out. Where do you find iron nuggets? Do you dig for them?

[compendiem]

[ Whew, he doesn't have to play teacher, he'd be terrible at it ]

You break apart rocks and sometimes they're inside. You're pretty strong... You could probably just punch them apart.

[ No need for tools. Maybe he just wants to see Serval demolish a rock with her bare hands, his impression of her is that she'll have no trouble with it. ]

I can try! Though I can't jump as high as normal, so I don't know if I'm as strong as normal either. But I'll see if I can! It might be fun to do that.

[ Island life of everybody offering to cook for everybody and ample time to laze around has probably just gotten them both soft, Minato thinks. ]

Sure. Let's go find a rock for you to try.

Okay! [She hops off the piano bench with a giggle.] Do you break rocks a lot?

Yeah. I need one to two hundred pounds of clay, so I've had to break a lot for the clay inside. Could I have any of the clay you get?

Sure! What are you going to make with it?

Oh! Okay! That makes sense! I didn't know humans made statues for the person they like, but if they're all so good at tools and making stuff, of course they would!

They sure do. I'm not too good at making things, but... I want to do this for her. Will you help me?

Sure! It must be really important to you. I'll help you find a bunch of clay, and then you can make a whole statue!
