Week 2

WEEK 2 LOG
Weather: Cloudy Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday AM and rainy PM; clear skies Thursday and Friday AM, slightly cloudy PM

    Arrival

A full week has come and gone, and you may be left with more questions than answers. There’s no word on the progress of figuring out how to get all of you home just yet -- you only have the land, an abandoned sea plane, your new homes and a garden to get you through this upcoming week.

    ...So far, that is.

Come Monday at nine AM though, Tom Nook does his morning announcements once more. Seems like he has something new for you to work with:

“Good morning, Isle Sonrisa! Great news -- we now have a grocery store up and running for everyone! The grocery store is located right about House #5, and it has a wide selection of foods and ingredients for you to choose from. While we’re still mailing kitchen equipment over to all of you, food shouldn’t be a problem any longer. The grocery store will be run by my apprentices…Timmy and Tommy!

We also have tulips in stock, now! Red, white, and yellow are our only colors, but I've heard that sometimes watering them next to one another may give you new colors. Perhaps you can try that out yourselves, yes?”

He’s very happy about this announcement. He knows how much you all wanted your food, after all! Time to continue with the announcements, though:

“The only other thing I have for you this morning is very, very important. I know there are many of you here on the island already, but assuming that most of you will be going back home, we need to get more permanent residents on the island. Yes, yes. Permanent residents from this world who may be interested in experiencing life on an island!

What I’m asking all of you to do is to prepare housing plots for our new residents. I’ve already designated areas on the island for them, and as such, your Nook Phones now have a map app so you can see where the new land plots will be. Yes, yes. Now, to prepare the first housing plot… I need the following:

    1 Log Dining Table
    1 Log Extra-long Sofa
    1 Log Decorative Shelves
    1 Log Wall-mounted Clock

If none of you have a DIY for any item in particular, I’ll go ahead and send the DIY recipe for it to your phones. It will show up in all of your DIY apps.”

He smiles at everyone with his trademark tanuki grin.

“And that’s about all I have for you today! Good luck, everyone!”

    Possible Objectives

    1. Help Tom Nook prepare a housing plot for a potential new resident!
    2. Stock up on food and cook for yourselves and your fellow residents.
    3. More to come this week...

NOTE: The map app will have a picture map that correlates to the one on the Locations page. There will be a list of resident names when you click on the tents. The map on the locations page will be updated OOCly later on Monday night.

    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to Week 2! A reminder that Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week. Please direct all questions to the FAQ under the Week 2 top level.

Here's this week's Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use!

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

[ Dokja takes the iron nugget, holding off the bottle and blinking at the information also provided. ]

Entertainment? [ With a message?] Like what? Something like a message lost at sea? Or maybe a love letter?

[ Joking, of course. Tone spoken with volumes of amusement. ]

A love letter to the world?

[ Laurent laughs a little as he takes the bottle. ]

I was wondering if I would write stories in parts in each bottle and then set them out to sea. It looks like the bottles end up washing up here eventually, so maybe someone will find them.

[ He doesn't seem bothered by the fact that

1) it's littering
2) it's cheesy as fuck
3) the chances are probably abysmally low for that to happen anyway

but it looks like Laurent is fine with the conditions.
]

Wouldn't that be romantic?

[ lol ]

Stories?

[ Well, that has Dokja's interest. But, considering the idea... he looks uncertain about this plan actually working. ]

If that's your idea of romantic, then yes. But if the story is going to be written in parts, would it need to be read in a certain order? If so, there's a chance for example someone might read the last part before ever reading the first.

[ It is cheesy as hell though. ] Though, as someone that enjoys reading I wouldn't mind coming across such stories.

[ Though he's quite bias. ]

[ Unfortunately, romanticism is completely lost on Laurent, so he just smiles a little as usual. ]

Then I hope you'll find one--but first, I'll need more bottles. Though, it would be nice if the deliveries could give us books every once in a while.

It would help pass the time, that's for sure. Maybe if we're lucky someone will get a bookcase.

[ Curiously, as he considers this. ] I wonder what kind of stories they would have? We're all mostly from different world-lines, after all.

Since animal features tend to be prevalent, I wonder if they'd be more like children's picture books. It's entertaining to read some of them even as an adult, because you have a different perspective than when you read it as a child.

[ Like watching kid cartoons and catching all the subtle dirty jokes. ]

Now that gives me an idea for a future essay assignment.

If there's one thing I learned, even if it's something you've read before.. reading it again is like looking at it at another perspective. It's a new story with each read. I would say even children's books will work the same way.

[ Oh? ]

Is it a secret? [ Because if not, do tell. ]

It's just as you said. Reading a book you read once a long time ago and reading it again now would give you a new insight and might even sprout new opinions. I want that sort of analysis on an essay.

[ Imagine a uni teacher assigning students children's books for lit class instead of some pretentious works of literature. ]

It'll offer some interesting reads at least.

[ Hey, Dokja would excel at such a task. Of course] But it works the same for books you've just recently read too.

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-10 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm...

[ Laurent looks a little thoughtful. ]

Do you like mysteries? I think they would work the same way, even if as an immediate reread.

I'm a little bias when it comes to my reading but if it's interesting enough, I'd give it a try. My favorite webnovel is nearly four thousand chapters long so there isn't any issues with long stories.

[ Yeah. ]

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-10 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The author must have been a very good writer if it kept you hooked for four thousand chapters.

[ Because... yeah.

Yeah.

What the fuck.
]

They are. But, I might be bias as I say that.

[ Extremely bias. Speaking of novels.. ] It would be nice to do some reading.

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-11 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
There's no shame in bias for things you like.

[ Laurent doesn't think he's good enough of a writer for an avid reader such as Dokja. There's something about his favorite webnovel with four thousand chapters that holds a very high standard. Hm. ]

I'd love to do some reading too. It actually feels pretty strange to go this long without reading a book.

[personal profile] afterword 2020-07-11 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ It's alright, because he likes Laurent enough he'd be willing to take a chance at any of your writing boyo. ]

I enjoy webnovels more but something tells me there won't be a lot of that here. [ Every time he checks the NookPhone he remembers. ] Still, I was thinking we would find something by now to read other than the bulletin board. I'd like to sit on a bench on a nice day with a book.

[ RNG be kind. ] Well, if either of us get lucky with a bookcase, let's promise to tell one another?
conceptualize: (pic#14101298)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-11 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course.

[ He'll definitely tell him in another future thread. Laurent would maybe take up on writing something like that every day, but I'm not sure if I can handle that lmao ]

Anyway, thanks for the bottle. I'll get going now.
